The N52 magnet (neodymium magnet) is a member of Rare Earth magnet and is the most powerful and strongest magnet in the world. Neodymium magnets are also considered as NdFeB magnets or
the NIB as they are constituted mainly of Boron (B), Neodymium (Nd) and the Iron (Fe).

Neodymium magnets are the comparatively new invention and they have become recently more
affordable for its use in everyday life in different applications.
The Grades of Neodymium. What are these?
N35, N38, N42,…… what all these numbers and the letter N mean? Actually these are the
materials which the neodymium magnets are made of. According to general and the most
obvious rule, the higher the grade the neodymium magnet has, the stronger it will be. The grade
is the number followed by the letter “N”. The highest grade that is currently available of the
neodymium magnet is N52 magnet. The temperature rating of the magnet is identified by the letter that is with
the grade and if there is no letter next to the grade then that magnet is termed as the standard
temperature neodymium.
The range of grades
Available range of the grades that are currently present are from N42 to N52 magnet. Lower grades of
the neodymium magnet are not manufactured now due to their almost zero demand and range
now starts from N30 or the N33. Highest readily available grade is N50. However in the future,
there are great chances that the more higher energy product may be calculated in the N64, but
such higher strengths are quite difficult to achieve but if these grades will be available then they
will be directly sold for the military applications.
China, master of the production for Neodymium Magnets
The Chinese manufacturers have recently become dominant force in the producing neodymium
magnets and they are master in the manufacturing of the neodymium grade N52 magnet. They are
dominant in manufacturing as they have large control on the world’s maximum sources of the
rare earth mines.
Grades of the sintered NdFeB are given below:
There is a wide international classification for sintered NdFeB. Values for them range strat from
28 and then ends at 52.
- N28AH -N35AH
- N28EH -N40EH
- N30UH -N42UH
- N30SH -N48SH
- N30H -N50H
- N30M -N50M
- N30 -N52
Applications of the N52 magnets
N52 magnets are used in many applications nowadays were the stronger
neodymium magnets are required.
- Neodymium magnets are main metal in formerly desk toy popular magnets,
- “Buckycubes” and “Buckyballs”, however due to their strength some retailers are not
- selling them because of child safety concerns.
- The strength of the N52 magnets has insisted the technicians to make their
- use in the medical field. They are used in the MRI equipment for generating the strong
- magnetic field.
- They are being used in the direct-drive wind turbines, as these wind turbines require the
- greater strength for its working, like magnetic coupling.
- Powerful N52 neodymium magnets are used in the process industries. These are used for
- catching the foreign bodies and for protecting the processes and the products.
